To me, cardigans seem like the scholarly alternative to the hoodie. First of all, they are unapologetically collegiate. Second of all, nothing gives off the vibe "I read important books" than wearing a cardigan. In college, the NCAA jocks wore hoodies everyday (and more often than not they had Greek letters on them) while the cute boy from Lit Theory who reads Baudrillard over double espressos wore the cardigan.
Another reason I love cardigans is that they're so damn pretentious. They're like the monocle or the pocket handkerchief of sweaters. Pompous, but supremely adorable.
The perfect accessory to a cardigan? A hot pair of subtle, monotone kicks, like these Common Projects sneakers.
