Yves St Laurent, a seminal designer of the 20th century, died last night after struggling with brain cancer for the last year. St Laurent was a visionary, who used menswear techniques in his designs for the female body - instantly showing how pants and tuxedos and safari jackets could be as chic and feminine as a cocktail dress.

Read YSL's biography at The Biography Channel's YSL feature. His influence on the fashion world will continue long after his death.

This dress, below, is the famous 1965 Mondrian YSL sheath dress, archived at the MET Museum in New York City.

I found this Forever21 tunic (pictured blow), which is very similar, on their website for $22.80.

This Forever 21 dress is a perfect example of what a relevant impact YSL still has on mainstream fashion (Forever 21 is ripping off his designs... 45 years later!!!!). He was a creative genius, and will be sorely missed. RIP Yves!
