The 90s are coming back in a major way, and everything is getting cropped: shorts, jeans, tees. For a long time there was a backlash against midriff baring shirts, after the whole Britney Spears overexposure/overexposed thing, but recently the look has been making a comeback. The new cropped tees are baggy, short-sleeved, and totally retro: think Clarissa Explains It All rather than Janet Jackson. I love the look of a cropped top - preferably with high-waisted jeans that don't show too much abdomen. American Apparel has been an early adopter of the ironically trashy cropped t-shirt look, but even high-end designers like Philip Lim and Mayle are designing with this trend in mind.
Trashy is the new classy, from cropped t-shirts to white trash hair to living on a diet of Red Bull and cheese crackers.
